Jill Walks 500 Miles

On March 16, 2015, I will be embarking on another great life adventure, a 500 mile solo walk on the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. Of course, you are wondering why I would ever want to do something like this. The short answer is: I can. The Camino has been an historical pilgrimage route for over 1000 years. Santiago was originally a pagan Celtic holy site, used in ancient times for religious pilgrimages. The Christian usage began around 800 AD by the Catholic Church as a journey to venerate the tomb of St. James, known as San Tiago in Spanish. Last year, over 230,000 pilgrims successfully completed this journey.
For those who don't know me, I am a dentist, now cheerfully retired, with 30+ years experience of a busy general practice in Vacaville, CA. My profession of dentistry has prepared me to have a successful career and be of service to others. My passion is helping make all levels of higher education available to deserving women.
My walk is dedicated to raising money to fund scholarships for women in college, sophomores through PhD candidates, all through the umbrella of Soroptimist International of Vacaville, a 501 (c) (3) organization. To help keep me walking for 500 miles, I am requesting pledges to support women in higher education. A pledge of a penny a mile is only $5, a dime a mile is $50, and $1 a mile is $500.
Donations in any amount to this very worthy effort are greatly appreciated. Contributions can be made at any time during or after the walk.
