Jim Bob’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On February 21st, Jim Canada was in a horrific work related accident involving acid that burned 85% of his body. He was flown to the burn unit at Springfield Memorial immediately, placed in a medically induced coma, and put on a ventilator to breathe for him. His stability changed by the hour. His kidneys began to fail and his lungs filled with fluid. Jim’s body was in shock and his blood pressure and blood sugar increased, causing him to need scheduled insulin and medications to control his blood pressure. Daily dialysis became a necessity as well. Arterial lines were placed for dialysis and to obtain accurate blood pressure readings. Blood cultures revealed a bacteria in his blood and Jim developed pneumonia, probably vent associated. His first surgery of many was to basically remove dead skin and clean the wounds. Every surgery is traumatic for Jim’s body as he remains in critical condition. Skin graft surgeries, tracheostomy, feeding tube placement, and continual wound debridement are necessary for his recovery. In recent days, the amount of sedation has been decreased as tolerated by Jim, so he has been able to wake up and see his loving family by his side.

Jim’s big loving family! He’s Shannon’s husband. He’s Mary Ann’s son. He’s Jenny, Jeri Ann, and Jason’s little brother. They have been by his side day in and day out, through this roller coaster of a ride for nearly a month. Most have taken leave from work and are staying in temporary living accommodations in Springfield to be close to Jim. Due to Jim’s critical injuries, the situation can change almost hour to hour, making it impossible for his family to be anywhere else but with him constantly. Their presence and support is also so important for Jim during this time.

Jim’s oldest sibling, Jenny, is a very dear, lifelong friend of mine. I spent many days at the Canada home while growing up and I feel compelled to help them with not only continual prayers but also financially, so that their focus can remain solely on Jim and his recovery. There are so many surgeries and painful days to come.

We can help! Let’s all rally together for this family and make sure they are equipped with what they need to endure this journey!!

Any donation will help! Even if prayers are all you can give, it is much appreciated, as this journey is sure to be a long one for Jim and his family!
Thanks for your help and continued prayers,

Pam
