Jim Miller Memorial Book Fund - 2022
Dear Family and Friends,
As many of you may know, my son, Jim served as a Jumpstart mentor to a five-year-old boy named Dylan, at a local Community Children Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
Jim was very involved and deeply devoted to the Jumpstart program and believed strongly in its mission. It was one more example of Jim’s commitment to social responsibility and service and how he championed those less fortunate than himself.
In response to Jim’s ardent spirit and commitment, the Jumpstart organization has established the Jim Miller Memorial Book Fund to provide limited edition books to classrooms in Community Children’s Centers throughout the Pittsburgh area.
While it has been fifteen years since Jim's passing, the work that Jim began with Jumpstart has continued to grow stronger each year and Jim's spirit is still felt throughout the organization and at the Hilltop Community Center where Jim served.
Last year, thanks to your overwhelming generosity and support, every child at the Hilltop Community Center in Pittsburgh where Jim mentored, as well as the other Jumpstart community centers in the Greater Pittsburgh area, received an individual book to read with their parent(s) through your contributions.
This year, our goal is simply to once again provide each child with his or her own book and to continue Jim's work in helping to develop and expand each child's love of reading at such an early age.
Your donation, coupled with the generous support from the Jumpstart book’s publishing firm HarperCollins and the University of Pittsburgh, will provide the Read for the Record program to present 1,800 books to this year’s children.
Every $10.00 contribution to this fund will provide a limited edition book, Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady, for each child at the preschool centers in the greater Pittsburgh area where Jim volunteered. This book is a celebration of cultural symbols, family, and self-affirmation.
