Jim Sumbrum medical expenses support
Donation protected
Our good friend, Jim Sumbrum is having a difficult time after his second leg amputation due to diabetes for 30 years and is in need of help. Renovations need to be made to his home to make it more accessible and he also requires some adaptive equipment, such as a lift to be able to get in and out of the house and a wheelchair van.
Jim is a lifelong resident of the First Ward and has given back much to the community over the years. He worked as a recreation aide for both the Old First Ward Center and the Valley Community Center. Jim served as a member of the Valley Board of Directors, coached Valley-First Ward Little League Football, (Mariners, Steamers) and South Buffalo Tigers. He also spearheaded food concessions at the "Rally in the Valley" and launched South Buffalo Lacrosse at Father Conway Park which fielded 160 kids its first year.
Jim worked a number of jobs throughout his life, retiring as a truck driver for the City of Buffalo.
Despite health struggles, including a kidney transplant, stroke, congestive heart failure, amputations of both legs and two fingers on each hand and legally blind in one eye and almost blind in the other eye, Jim has kept his sense of humor and an upbeat attitude. He is committed to his neighborhood and would trek to Waterfront Memories & More Museum on his scooter and attend Wednesday evening concerts at Buffalo River Fest Park with his family. Although he was honored as Grand Marshal of the 2018 Old Neighborhood St. Patrick's Day Parade he was in the hospital for amputation of his fingers and was unable to attend
Jim and his family would be grateful for any financial support from his community and friends to help with modifications to his home.
The need is urgent so Jim can have a good quality of life so please consider supporting our cause now.
