Jimbo's Burial Costs

Donation protected
Humans have always been nomads. Since the dawn of time we’ve moved across sky, land, and sea in the search of opportunities and the escape of peril.

When Jimbo as a young man looked from Harris Village across the sea and saw the hazy outline of Antigua on the horizon, he never would have thought that he would in the future lay nine months in a funeral home there, unburied and unclaimed.

The hands of fate can be kind but they can often be quite cruel; you may set your sail for fortune but end up cast by an ill wind against life’s jagged rocks. The story of Jimbo’s time in Antigua, the latter half of Jimbo’s life, has yet to be told. Details are few and far between but what we know, for now, is that of rough patches and an untimely end.

No one wishes for their personal demise though we know the final page will eventually turn for us all. Our hope is that, when we do depart, we at least leave with some dignity. For Jimbo this has so far been denied. He lies robbed of a decorous end, frozen for months by the living, awaiting the life of the dead.

Let Jimbo not lie longer with a title as wretched as ‘unclaimed’—for he was something to all of us—friend, neighbour, classmate, church member, village man, coworker, country man. We are asking those who knew him (or emphasise) to help contribute to his burial if you can.

Sylvanis ‘Jimbo’ Greenaway from Harris Village, Montserrat passed away on February 10 2022 in Antigua and Barbuda. Many reading this are likely to have previously wished him R.I.P then. Unfortunately, he hasn’t rested. He has remained in a morgue ever since as no one has come forward to bury him.

Barnes Funeral home in Antigua has graciously agreed to waive the storage costs, but would still require at least the burial costs. This is a sum of EC$10,500.00. Taking into consideration GoFundMe’s 2.9% fee, we are seeking to raise EC$10,813.00 (equiv GBP£3,355.00 or USD$4004.00).

ALL funds raised through the GoFundMe will be passed on to Barnes Funeral home.

Please give if you can. Jimbo’s journey is not yet over.

[This is a collaboration by myself (Danny Joseph) and Danny Bramble who brought Jimbo’s plight to public attention. We all grew up in Harris Village, Montserrat with Jimbo, and in the unavailability of other options, and are trying to do something to help]
