Jim's Obituary:
"James "Jim" Haynes, 67 years old, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born on October 30, 1948 in Denver Colorado. With two brothers who were quite older than him, he often searched out his own recreation. As a child he constructed a baby monitor for his niece and entertained the kids at school by climbing into the garbage can and peeking out the opening to report ‘the news’. This ingenuity, creativity and benevolence he showed at such a young age painted his accomplishments throughout life.
Jim obtained a degree in Journalism from Colorado State University in 1970 and quickly landed a job at Mountain Bell. He married Connie Whitten and had two daughters Joanna and Meredith. Divorce in 1980 landed him into the role of “Single Dad”, which he took on with complete adoration and care, providing his daughters with their needs and many of their wants, multiple environments in which to learn life’s lessons, and plenty of laughter and love.
By getting Joanna and Meredith involved in 4-H, he met Lynn Christensen, who turned out to be his devoted and loving wife for the next 32 years. In 1986 Jim and Lynn welcomed their son Scott into the world. This filled Jim with the joy and excitement of developing an undying bond between father and son that he did with all of his heart, comprised of working on old cars, civic involvement, and sharing many passions together.
Jim continued to work for US West communications, leading to a final move to Oregon where he and Lynn purchased 7 acres of land for their family to play and ride horses on. After retiring in 2000, he and Lynnfounded and co-owned Western Heritage Public Relations where he lent his talents to helping others grow their livelihoods by establishing connections, and building on their strengths. He was so proud to walk his daughter, Joanna, down the aisle on her wedding day, see his daughter Meredith graduate from college and witness his son Scott grow into an articulate and responsible man.
As a civic leader, he devoted much of his time to the Sherwood community, serving as president of the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce (twice!), a member of the Sherwood Cultural Arts Commission, Washington County Grants Board, Sherwood Jr. Baseball, and Sherwood Mom and Dads Club, to name a few. He was also a board member of the Sherwood Main Street Program where he helped to lead the organizing of the Old Engine Show. He was an avid leader at the Sherwood United Methodist Church and the Sherwood Cruisers Car Club. He was excited and proud to serve as a chairman in forming the Sherwood Police Foundation and be named the Sherwood Citizen of the Year in 2014. Through all of this he made sure he had the time to bond with and impart his knowledge on grandson Nathan and granddaughter Lydia, and continue to share laughter with and provide love, support, and counsel to all of his children and family.
Jim is predeceased by his brothers John and Will Haynes. He is survived by his wife Lynn Haynes, daughter Joanna Williams (James Williams), daughter Meredith Haynes (Alicia Herbelin) and son Scott Haynes (Katie Born). He leaves two grandchildren, Nathan and Lydia Williams."
