Jimmy and Julie Newton have been married for nearly 15 years and are parents of four beautiful children. They love the outdoors, traveling, riding bikes, and playing board games. They’ve undergone some dramatic changes over the past few months and so we feel compelled to step up and help the Newton family.
Julie was recently diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer (er/pr+ her2-) and Jimmy lost his job this month due to layoffs at work. The past few months have been emotionally, physically, and mentally difficult with Julie’s Stage IV breast cancer diagnosis and then Jimmy’s job situation has compounded their anxiety.
Julie’s initial breast cancer diagnosis occurred in 2019 when she felt a lump in her left breast. She underwent a mastecomy, radiation and was prescribed Tamoxifen. She chose not to have reconstruction because she wanted to be able to feel for future recurrences. Little did she know what a huge blessing that would prove to be in 3 short years.
In late 2022, she felt a small pea-sized lump in the same location and sought advice from a breast specialist in Austin, Texas. The specialist was amazed that Julie was able to find the lump. The surgeon felt confident it was nothing more than a small recurrence caught early and advised an outpatient surgery. The surgery to remove the second lump was successful. Julie insisted they conduct additional tests to see if there were additional areas of concern. After a series of full body and bone scans, she received news the breast cancer had metastisized to her Lymph nodes, thoiracic and lumbar spine, sternum, sacrum, iliac and ischial bones, pubic bone, and femoral neck.
The news was devastating!
Julie is determined to live! She is a fighter! She is brave! She is strong! She wants to see her babies grow up. She wants to see them get married. She wants to be a grandmother.
She sat with her oncologist and worked out a treatment plan. Her current treatment plan includes a heavy dose of daily medications, IV therapy, and treatments provided by other health practitioners.
Dealing with Stage IV breast cancer is difficult for any family but Jimmy’s recent job loss has compounded their stress levels and concerns about their medical financial obligations.
