As many people are aware Sunday March 31st, Jimmy Pringle sadly lost his battle with cancer. I share these details not to restart the sadness and that pain of a piece of our hearts being torn off when we first heard, but to share what he was going through with those who had know idea. There are many whom would never know, because Jim was as stoic as they come, and he enjoyed being happy.
He initially was diagnosed with cancer a bit over 3 years ago. Since then he went through some very difficult times as his body was very intolerant of some of the chemo and radiation he was having to take. There were moments he felt it was back under control, and he was feeling pretty well (according to Jim, he was "feeling great!"). Recently some additional health issues complicated being able to fight the cancer. On Sunday morning March 31st, and quite unexpectedly, Jim succumbed to these complications.
Over the course of the 3 years Jim was a regular at Stanford hospital, and the staff there loved him too. He once joyfully told me, "it's amazing what a batch of cookies can do for peoples' attitudes. And he took them cookies on every planned visit. But that was Jim, always making a situation better. Unfortunately with all these visits, both planned and unplanned the medical bills have piled up. On many of the treatments he underwent, it was deemed not coverable by insurance, because it was experimental. Jim researched far and wide about any alternatives to the chemo and radiation that was unbearable for his body, and he would consult with many different people, fighting in any way he thought may help. And he fought valiantly, and he did it with a grin on his face.
If you've read this far, you probably know Jim fairly well, and understand what a great person he was. In fact, if you're still reading, I'd go so far as to say, at some point Jim has probably helped you out in some way. This is our chance to to give back to Jim and his loving family, to help them get through this very difficult time. Please contribute what you can, no amount is too small.
