Jimmy Rone's Journey to Fight Cancer
Donation protected
Hey there! I'm Melissa Reynolds Smith, one of many, many cousins related to Jimmy Rone from Kershaw, SC. Jimmy has always been a hard working and proud man, son, husband, and father. He has not asked for a dime from anyone. He did not ask me to create this account for him. He has only asked for treatment to fight cancer so he can see his boys get married and build a home and his daughter learn to read and grow up.
Years ago, Jimmy was diagnosed with cancer in his eye. He went to Duke and received treatment and was doing well. Recently, things spiraled down though. At Duke, he was told the cancer had spread to his liver and he didn't have much hope. As you can imagine, this was unexpected for a family man in his early 50s and it devastated Jimmy as well as his wife , boys, daughter, parents, and brothers. You can't get much better than treatment at Duke right? And...they were saying they could not help him.
Through research, Jimmy connected with the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He flew out, had tests, and waited. They told him they could offer treatment. However, Jimmy would need to return to and remain in Texas for at least a month. He also would be required to pay for the first $100,000 of these medical bills. This $100,000 is in addition to the two airline tickets Jimmy and his wife have already paid for to travel to and from the Cancer Center for both visits. They are also paying for a hotel stay and meals for the month while he gets this needed treatment. Jimmy's boys are older and have flown to Texas to support him. His baby girl is in the care of his parents.
I cannot imagine the stress of having cancer, paying all these bills, and being away from his children this long has caused him. While my goal of $5,000 won't put a dent in the $100,000 medical bill payment, it can help with their expenses of airline tickets, hotel stays, and meals and maybe ease a little bit of their worry. Please consider donating and sharing. No amount is too small.
