In honor of Jimmy’s passion for fishing, the Waitz family asks that in lieu of flowers you please donate to Streets2streams. A New Jersey Non-Profit that takes urban youth from Newark NJ and introduces them to the great outdoors. Getting kids from the city into fishing, hiking, and environmental conservation.
Jimmy “ the watch man” Waitz lived to fish. Work was just something you did when you weren't going fishing. (When he had to work he was a jeweler, running his family business in Burlington for over 50 years with kindness, generosity and skill).
During the fishing season you could set your clock by Jimmy’s arrival at the Delaware shore each morning and evening. Nothing could put a smile on that cigar-filled grin like a 44-inch striper. On Sundays (the one day of the week the store was closed) Jimmy fished the Delaware, Navasink, and Hudson rivers and the ocean. On these ocean trips Jimmy would leave Burlington at 1 am, arrive at Belmar Marina at 2 am, climb onto Captain Cal’s boat for a nap, and by 730 am when the crew arrived they would be pulling out of the marina. He leaves behind his fishing buddies Roy, Keyport Joey, Captain Cal and the crew, and the Scrapper.
