Jimmy's Medical Expenses...Again
Donation protected
Jimmy and I just got back from the vet. This afternoon I noticed that, after he had sat down on an envelope and then stood back up, it had both blood and urine on it. His inner hindquarters were sopping wet and his genitals looked horribly swollen. I tried to gently blot his butt with a paper towel to determine what liquid(s) he was wet with, but the instant I touched him, he screamed in pain.
I was lucky enough to find a vet a few towns over who was open today. It was over an hour drive each way. The vet thought maybe, since he's had a UTI before just last year, he should check Jimmy's bladder, urine, kidneys, and thyroid. I felt even sicker than I already was when I saw the estimate, but paid it anyway.
When he had a UTI last year and I was able to take him to his regular vet, it cost under $200.
Today's total was $909.47.
The good news:
- His kidneys are in perfect health
- His thyroid is in perfect health
- The ultrasound found no stones
- He's not currently blocked
- I had enough money to pay the bill
- He's on pain meds, an antibiotic, and a topical steroid now
The bad news:
- He has a UTI again
- The swelling could possibly be a tumor
- He might have arthritis
- The ultrasound and exam were honestly kind of traumatic for both of us; I haven't heard a cat scream like that in decades and I'm still really shaken up about it
- I really, REALLY needed that money for other pressing things, and now I have to scramble to make up what I spent at the vet today
I'm making this GFM in hopes of retroactively paying for some of Jimmy's medical bill, because while I was able to cover it, doing so puts me in a REALLY bad spot.
Anything is appreciated—shares and donations alike.
