Jim's Fan Dance At 60
Donation protected
On 27th September (*due to my catching Covid-19, this challenge will now be rescheduled to a date yet to be set in the Spring of 2023), I'll be taking on the Fan Dance, solo, to raise funds for Scotty's Little Soldiers and for Babbington Rescue.
The Fan Dance is a 24km trek, carrying 45lbs on the back, in South Wales which goes over the top of Pen-y-Fan mountain twice (hence the name 'fan dance').
It is used as a selection test for UK Special Forces with a cut off time of 4 hours and 10 minutes.
When I turned 50, I took on the challenge and narrowly missed the cut off time due to blisters and injury. Now, at 60, I'm back for another go; aiming for under the selection time, solo.
I am raising funds for two fantastic causes:
Scotty's Little Soldiers who do amazing work with bereaved UK armed forces children.
Babbington Rescue, a fantastic rescue centre based in Awsworth (East Midlands) and whose kennels were so loved by Lester whenever I went away.
It is a very tough challenge at any age, let alone over 60 so I hope you will be supportive and chuck a few quid at it!
Thank you in advance.
Jim.
