Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training

Donation protected

I began practicing yoga in the late 1990's. The practice of yoga changed my life in so many positive ways, that I decided I wanted to share it with others. So I studied to become a yoga teacher with one of my favorite teachers, Marni Task. I graduated from her yoga teacher training program in June 2009.

Since graduating from her program 9 years ago, I have taught over 5,000 hours, and I have continued to practice, to study, and to pursue continuing education in order to be the best teacher I can be for the students who come to take classes with me.

My teacher Marni was trained by Sharon Gannon and David Life in the method of yoga they developed called Jivamukti Yoga. Their book by the same name was one of our key textbooks in training. Studying their book allowed me to realize I would one day like to become a certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher. I am blessed to have been able to study with Sharon and David (and other senior Jivamukti teachers) for two 5-day Jivamukti Yoga immersions in September  2017 and September 2018.

I love the Jivamukti Yoga method because it provides a a blueprint for incorporating the physical, psychological, spiritual and mystical aspects of yoga into modern life, without losing sight of the universal goal of the practice: liberation. Jivamukti Yoga’s focus on a non-dualistic view of life (the interconnectedness of all) awakens in the practitioner not only the need to protect the environment and all the animals and plants that share the planet with us, but also teaches skills to confidently achieve those goals for oneself as well as lead others to live in harmony with the planet.

I am raising funds in order to undertake the Jivamukti 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training in June 2019. It is a month-long residential, intensive training program,  held at different locations around the world and attracting students from many different countries. This rigorous program taught by senior Jivamukti Yoga teachers is considered to be the most comprehensive yoga teacher training available. It produces empowered, informed, and confident yoga teachers. The training teaches students to incorporate asana, chanting, music, meditation, activism and scriptural study into a challenging practice underpinned by a quest for enlightenment.

In 2019, the program will only be offered at locations outside the U.S. The June 2019 program that I would like to undertake is in Costa Rica. This program of study will allow me to not only deepen my own  personal practice but will also allow me to deepen my teaching of yoga. It will also help me to achieve my long term goal of opening a Jivamukti Yoga Center in Cleveland, my hometown. The first step is becoming a certified Jivamukti teacher. This challenging, rigorous, thorough program will be like "yoga graduate school" for me.

I am a householder yogi, not only a teacher of yoga, meaning that I am committed to and dedicated to doing my best to live my whole life in a way that is aligned with the teachings of yoga. I teach yoga because I love sharing it with others. I practice yoga to work towards reaching my full potential as a human being.

My work as a yoga teacher never feels like work, and it is deeply satisfying on many levels, but it also doesn't pay a lot. My husband works hard, and yet like many people, we live paycheck-to-paycheck. That's why I'm seeking your help to make my dream of Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training (and eventually a Jivamukti Yoga Center Cleveland) a reality. A donation in any amount would be appreciated so deeply, and I would be so humbly grateful for any assistance you could provide.

The early bird pricing package for the training will be ending soon, and it includes both the training tuition and room and board. That's $10,590.  I will also need to purchase a plane ticket to Costa Rica. And finally I will need a cushion to cover the bills since I will miss a month of income when I'm gone for the training. That's why I'm trying to raise about $12,000.  I know that money is tight for many of us, and that is why I am grateful for donations of any amount. I am hopeful that if many people can make a small contribution, together it will all add up.
