JJ Thyroid Surgery Bill
Donation protected
Hello,
Some of you knew, and for those who didn't, my oldest son JJ, just had Thyroid surgery to remove a large mass. While going through a physical for a UT football tryout, the mass was located on the right side of his Thyroid and grew to be twice the size of his right lobe.
As a parent, sibling, child or friend of someone who has experienced cancer, you can imagine the scary feeling of hearing a doctor say "we have to do a biopsy to find out if the mass is cancer." Albeit this type of cancer is not fatal, the process is long and arduous. It was explained to us that a biopsy would be required to first determine the severity of what he was dealing with.
The first biopsy came back benign, but still measured a 3 out of 6 on the Bethesda scale which is how they measure Thyroid cancer. The doctors (2 opinions) remained uneasy about leaving the mass alone due to its size and not measuring less than a 2 and ordered surgery.
Through lots of prayers and support in the last few days, the words "cancer free" never seemed so beautiful.
BUT, as Murphy's Law would have it, all of this came about while creating a tech startup and being self-insured. So now, the unfortunate side of the medical business is staring us in the face. Thus, why I am here and reaching out for help...please. We are facing a bill appears to be $22,952.94. Appears to be because another sentence in our Patient Estimate reads, "This amount may range from $21,569.28 to $43,588.99", so who really knows.
JJ's mom and I are asking for your help in any way you can. We fully understand we may not raise all of the required costs, but every little bit helps.
Even if you took the time to read our story and cannot donate, thank you for your few minutes and a prayer of gratitude would be 100% welcomed.
Thank you all so much!
