Save our home

Hi, we are Barbara and Eugene Rackel and we are asking for your help to stay in our home for another 8 months. We are finding ourselves in a state of urgency to pay our city taxes.

2020 was a year none of us are going to forget, for sure. For us, it was the beginning of financial hole we can not get out of.

Eugene had to retire early with a worn out body from years of construction. His right shoulder needed repairing and was done September 2020. He couldn't qualify for insurance, and at 61, cannot find a part time job.

I had a tumor removed my skull in October, 2020. The craniotomy left me with cognitive and physical impairment, short term memory loss, inability to concentrate, and seizures. I'm no longer allowed to drive. My attempts at a part time home based business failed. I rarely leave my home.

Our health leaves us with a very low combined income. It's only ever barely enough to cover food, utilities and medicine.

As a result, we have not been able to pay our taxes for the past 3 years. The accumulated amount is $8,013.00, and the city will take our home for that amount unless we come up with the amount by September end, 2023. And then there are legal costs on top. I have no idea how much.

We're selling most of our stuff to help cover costs for taxes, selling and moving, but know we will fall far short.

I'm (Barbara)overwhelmed.

This is our last resort. Please help if you are able. Barb is 63, Eugene is 61. Anything is appreciated and we can pay you back when we sell. If we can't pay, we face being another homeless senior couple.
