“If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.”
― John Dewey
I believe John Dewey is one of the most inspirational philosophers on education of his time.  Inspiration is key in reaching today’s students. In my humble opinion, teachers who have raised the bar, and stepped outside the box with their own experiences, and bring them back to the classroom, will become the new inspirational pioneers in public education.

My name is Kim Williams, and in 2012, I was one of two teachers selected by the United States Green Building Council ,(USGBC) and Center for Green Schools' "Coolest Teacher Contest", to represent the United States on Robert Swans’ “Leadership on the Edge” expedition to Antarctica.  That expedition inspired me both personally and professionally, and most importantly, aforded me once in a lifetime experiences to share with my students. Since my return, my students have been aforded many new exciting hands-on lessons inspired from my expedition. We are currently working on establishing a school aquaponics program!

I have recently been selected by 2041  to return to  Antarctica, and  participate in their 2015 “ Leadership on the Edge” program, and we are attempting to bring one of my students on board!  If this happens, he will be the youngest person to complete this program.

The upcoming expedition will again provide unique and unequaled professional development, training, and leadership experiences in Antarctica.  There will be approximately eighty participants this year, and I hope to be one of them!  My participation in the expedition depends on my ability to raise the remaining balance for the expedition and airfare to Ushauia, Argentina. So far, through private donations, I have received $11,000 towards the $24,000 cost for the expedition and airfaire, and now have a remaining $13,000 that I am attempting to raise,( not including funds for my student). I am hoping that you or your organization  will assist me with all or part of these costs.

Your support towards this endeavor would not only be greatly appreciated, but will contribute to shaping the next generation of leaders in sustainability and renewable energy!
