The John Lester Foundation
Donation protected
My father, John Lester, lived his life with a sense of infectious optimism and resilience. Despite 30 years of kidney disease, 3 transplants and a 7 year battle with cancer he would wake up each day saying "I've Never Seen a Better Day". He excelled in his career, he was adored by a community of friends and was a devoted husband, father and son.
He had to endure many extensive plastic reconstructive surgeries to fight his cancer. Despite the grueling nature of these surgeries, they gave him new life and allowed him to live the way he wanted. Along that journey, he found his passion in helping children who were undergoing similar reconstructive surgeries. Before he passed away, he had channeled his efforts into helping start a foundation aimed at supporting these children to provide them the best possible care. Unfortunately, he did not get the opportunity to get this off the ground.
The John Lester Foundation is our way of honoring those wishes and continuing on his legacy. Any donations that we collect will go towards an endowment aimed specifically at benefitting children's plastic surgery. More specifically, those treatments that do not receive enough philanthropic attention and are under supported. Microtia Repair is a prime example of this. These treatments are a blend of art and medicine and have the power to give children their life and confidence back, just as it had done for my father.
These operations require highly specialized training and experience which is only perfected by few surgeons in the country. Unfortunately, often times families are turned away from this high quality care because of insurance reasons and are forced to seek lower quality care elsewhere. The aim of this foundation is to help those families receive the best possible care and so they never have to be turned away. In addition, we will help fund research leading to better outcomes in these areas. Our mechanism for effecting this change will be through leveraging a partnership with plastic surgeons at our local Children's Hospital.
My family thanks you for any contribution you feel inclined to give. Thank you for helping us carry on his legacy and to fulfill his passion. God Bless.
