On Tuesday, March 13th, my Father suffered a traumatic brain injury while attempting to fix an antenna so that his grand daughters could watch tv before bed. While making his way up a 20 ft ladder he fell to the ground head first. When my mother found him was non-responsive and minutes later he began breathing again as the ambulance was on it's a way-a true blessing. He was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where he received an emergency craniectomy and surgery to stop the hemorrhaging that occurred.
For anyone who knows, my Dad, Jose Luis Reynoso Sr. (aka “Joe” aka “Coco”) they know that he is a high spirited man with a radiant smile, who loves laughter and listening to oldies, but most importantly he loves his family. For our family it has be a time of silence, waiting and prayer.
For two weeks we waited as my Father remained unconscious and during that time we discovered that he had a stroke a week after his life-saving surgery. His stroke is effecting the left frontal lobe of his brain leaving him currently unable to talk, limits his mobility and his memories may also be effected. After two weeks though, my Father finally woke up and communicates through blinking his eyes and moving his left hand. He has even shown some movement in his legs, demonstrating his strength and desire to be here.
For me, the hardest part has been seeing the tears form in my Father’s eyes as he stares at his loved ones moving his mouth and blinking his eyes wanting to speak. To wonder how much he must be longing to hug his grand daughters and kiss his wife. To see the tears form in his eyes because he wishes he could say “I love you” back. When I visit him my heart hurts because before me is a man who has done everything to take care of me his whole life and I want nothing more but to help him reclaim his life and live with joy. That is why I am writing this and asking you for your help.
Right now the biggest obstacles he faces are the damage caused to his brain from the fall, the damage from the stroke and the post surgery hemorrhaging. The most important of this journey to regain his health will be rehabilitation services and constant medical care. These services are dire in engaging every possibility that can help my Father speak and move again. Aside from his brain injury, my Father is in incredible health with all his organs. He is blood pressure is constantly praised and his recovery is very steady. Currently we are battling with insurance companies trying to get him the best care possible, meanwhile they have only offered us 21 days of rehabilitation care that is about to be exhausted on April 26th. The funds raised here will help insure that regardless of cost everything possible will be done to help Jose Luis Reynoso Sr. laugh, sing and make many more memories with the family he loves. Any and every effort means so much to us. ❤️
Our goal is to get him into the Ranchos Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center in Downey, which is one of the best facilities in the nation for survivors of traumatic brain injuries and strokes. All funds will help my Father go to in-patient and eventually out-patient services that will help him reclaim his quality of life.
The services he will need on a consistent basis for the next 2 years include and aren’t limited to : physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and cognitive therapy. These services will help him start to do everything again from buttoning up his shirt to being able to cook. In addition to any medications or other procedures he may be needing. It's a long road ahead but, again, every bit of support will make a difference and we thank you graciously.
Your constant support, prayers and positivity make a world of difference in my life, my Father’s life and the lives of all my family members. I ask you from the bottom of my heart, please help us make more miracles happen for him and please help my Dad get the help he needs.
I ask that even if you cannot donate money, please send a prayer or good thought to him--- and please share this page and help our cause! ❤️ My family and I appreciate all the help we can get and have gotten so far With all of my heart and all of my soul thank you and may you be very blessed. Love you all ❤️
