Nancy's Financial Help
Donation protected
Some of you may know that my mom, Nancy, has been struggling the last couple years. For those of you who don't know, my mom had a work related injury to her shoulders about 8 years ago. She underwent several surgeries to repair the damage, but they were unsuccessful. She is left with limited range of motion and chronic pain. WSIB was supporting her throughout until last year, when they demanded she return to work. She was unable to return to her position as a truck driver because of the injuries, so she began working at a call centre. She did that for about 9 months but each day the pain grew worse from using her arms to answer phones and type. Her doctor once again pulled her off work, however, this time WSIB didn't support her, stating that pain does not classify as a measurement to which they would insure.
She has appealed their decision but it will take several months to hear a response. She has also applied to long term disability, but again it will take months and there is no guarantee of acceptance. We have went down every avenue - social assistance, grants, family, etc, some were helpful, others were not. She continues to receive a total of $486 a month from WSIB but that is her only income.
Right now her natural gas has been shut off - no hot water or furnace, it will be just a matter of time before her utilities are turned off as well. I have tried to support her financially as much as possible, but I am struggling as well. I am happy to have her shower here, to buy groceries for her and dog/cat food, but I don't have the means to pay her bills. She brought her old car to the scrap yard yesterday for a mere $75 to put towards bills.
I am not sure what else I can do to help my mom make ends meet. Someone suggested a gofundme account - I am still reluctant to do this as I feel we are airing all our dirty laundry on the Internet for people to see. But I am at a loss. Without some sort of decision from WSIB or disability, my mom will soon be homeless.
If you can't donate a couple dollars, please share. And even if you have a suggestion on where we can go for help, I would love to hear it.
Thank you, Jenna
