Bonnie Beats Cancer
Bonnie is my sister, she’s a mom to 3 incredible teenagers who need her, she's a wife, a daughter, an aunt and a friend. Bonnie is also a nurse who has always given selflessly. She’s only 42 and was full of life until a month ago. In the past two week she’s gone from a diagnosis of pneumonia (treated with antibiotics) to blood clots in her lungs (treated with blood thinners) to now tumours in her lungs. She’s also been told she has lesions on her brain and a tumour in her hip that has deteriorated the joint and is causing severe pain. This began with hip pain and a hard lump in her groin that doctors did not want to look into 6 months ago. She was referred to physio. It wasn’t until her physiotherapist began to push for an ultra sound that doctors agreed.
Last week, Bonnie was diagnosed with Stage 4 primary lung cancer. Bonnie is not a smoker and has always been active.
We feel hope in the fact that Bonnie is a candidate for targeted gene therapy. She has been taking this medication for 5 days and seems to be noticing a difference. The doctors in Edmonton have not given the success rate on this treatment but do say that if successful it will give her 5 - 10 more years. She has 3 kids to see graduate from High School and University, weddings to be at and hopefully grand babies to cuddle. We want longer!
This led us to look for a second opinion. We were referred to Sanoviv Medical Institute, a licensed hospital in Mexico where the doctors are all trained in Western Medicine but prefer to use world-class, leading-edge, alternative therapies wherever possible. Sanoviv has state-of-the-art equipment, and is continually staying on top of the finest/leading diagnostic & treatment protocols available in the world. Today, Bonnie spoke with an oncologist there and was told she is a strong candidate for their treatment program. This is a program that will compliment and increase the likely hood of success of her current therapy by 30%.
We are raising money to support Bonnie in whatever this fight to beat cancer needs. If we raise enough we'll be sending her to Sanoviv ASAP. However, we recognize this journey could change many times. As a mother, Bonnie's greatest concern is making sure her children are taken care of. There have been so so many people within her community that have stepped up to make meals, help with house work, driving and anything that's needed. We are so very thankful for this. Every dollar raised will go to helping Bonnie and her family to fight and give her the best chance at fully enjoying a beautifully healthy life with her family.
We all need her.
