Joan Christine Smith

My mom and my friend, Joan Christine Smith, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Baystate Medical Center.

Joan was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on August 14, 1936, and was one of two daughters of the late Mr. William and Mrs. Signe Gale, and predeceased sister, Lois Minkley.

My mom is survived by her loving husband and life-long partner of 65 years, Stuart Smith; her daughter, Judi DellaMarco and her husband, Robert DellaMarco; granddaughter, Theresa Moran and her husband, Brian Moran, as well as her two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Hannah Moran.

Anyone who knew my mother knew that she was fun and loving, and made all who she met feel like family. She was very active with many outdoor activities – mini bikes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, sailing, boating, waterskiing, swimming, fishing, and so much more. She also loved to cook and share food with everyone. Family and friends that came to visit, play cards or share a meal never left hungry. During her self-employment as “Clean-Brite Carpet Cleaners”, she met many customers, and so many called her their friend. She and my father also worked with the West Springfield Church of Christ and the youth in the church for many years before their retirement.

My mom touched the hearts of many, and her memory will forever leave a footprint in all of our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family is kindly asking for financial contributions for final expenses, as well as remaining care for her loved one.
