JOAN & OLIVIA take TORONTO & EDMONTON
Donation protected
Hello there! We are Ebb & Flow Theatre, and we are raising funds for our production of Joan & Olivia: A Hollywood Ghost Story, playing in Toronto and Edmonton this August!
Our play explores the complex dynamics of sibling rivalry, generational trauma, jealousy, pride and nostalgia. The show runs 60 minutes and will be full of laughs, tears and lots of heart.
THE TEAM
Ebb & Flow Theatre is an ad-hoc collective comprised of up-and-coming Toronto theatre artists. Team members include playwright, producer and actor Georgia Findlay, director Matt Eger, and actor Crystal Casera, who are all thrilled to come back to this play two years after its initial Toronto Fringe run. Joining the team for this production are stage manager Sarah Brawn, and actors Olivia Cameron and Emma Nelles.
We are currently in the midst of rehearsals with our wonderful cast of actors, who will be performing this August at the Assembly Theatre in Toronto on August 6th, 7th, and 8th, followed by a 6-show run at the Edmonton Fringe Festival from August 16th - 24th.
THE STORY
Our play is based on the true story of Joan Fontaine and Olivia De Havilland, who were two of old Hollywood’s brightest stars and most bitter rivals. They also just happened to be sisters! In our fictionalized story, we follow these real-life screen legends beyond the grave as they find themselves stuck as ghosts, doomed to haunt their childhood home in Saratoga, California. When two new young sisters move into the house, Joan and Olivia begin meddling in their affairs and passing their feud on to a new generation.
CROWDFUNDING PURPOSE
After a successful run of performances at the 2022 Toronto Fringe Festival, Ebb & Flow Theatre is taking on an even more ambitious endeavour: taking this show on the road and bringing it to the Edmonton Fringe Festival - the largest of its kind in North America! With this journey, we are introducing this play and these wonderful emerging artists to a whole new community and audience of theatre lovers on the other side of the country. As exciting as this adventure is, it comes with many more expenses than our initial local run required.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help us cover travel expenses, shipping, printing, costumes, set pieces, props, rehearsal spaces, venue rental, participation fees, sound, lighting, technical support and marketing. And this is all before factoring in any payment for our hardworking artists! Our goal is to cover these costs through our fundraising efforts so that the artists can reap the fruits of their labour and split the box office revenue in a profit share model. This production is not for profit, but we strongly believe in valuing the arts and paying artists for all the hard work they put in.
Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated! Never underestimate the value of a dollar. Please consider donating any amount that you feel comfortable giving, be that the cost of a coffee, an uber trip, or whatever you feel is worth investing in emerging Canadian artists. With your help we can make this show something beautiful to share with you all!
THANK YOU!
