Joanne’s Battle with Breast Cancer

Donation protected
We as her family who knows her life story, wonder how her smile hide all the pain and adversaries that she has gone through in the past and what she is going through right now. She is funny, warm, empathic, caring and most of all a woman with a great faith in God. She has gained a throve of friends from work and in private. So, when my Mom graduated from nursing school, I know she’ll do good as a nurse.

My name is Justine and I’m starting this campaign for my Mom. Joanne or “joy” to her friends and family, is a loving mother to me and my 3 brothers, a good wife to her husband Greg and a good friend to many. She also happens to be a nurse caring for hospice patients. She passionately cared for her patients like her own family. She held their hands and comforted their hearts with great compassion. Not only her patients, but their families as well. She goes above and beyond her call of duty, that’s why I am not surprised when she made friends with some of her patient’s family.

Now, sadly, my mom is on the other side. On February 15, 2016, she received a call confirming that she has breast cancer, Invasive/Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma which has metastasized to her lymph nodes, Estrogen+ Progesterone+ HER2 negative. And as if that news is not shocking enough for her and our family, her Oncologist discovered a serious lung infection that made her treatments challenging.
But, my mom is blessed with good doctors and care providers. She had lumpectomy and currently undergoing series of chemo therapy. She is done with Adriamycin + Cytoxan treatments and now currently on Taxol treatments and radiations in the near future.

She will be out of work until all her cancer treatments and her lung infection treatments are done. She is getting weekly EKG (Electrocardiogram) and Lab works to monitor her fluctuating blood counts and has had several blood transfusions. That is one of the reason why her mastectomy did not push through.
She gets monthly Ototoxicity test due to slight hearing loss and tinnitus and Neurologic tests that monitors her peripheral neuropathy brought about by the side effects of medications and chemo therapy.

Between the many tests, treatments and doctor’s visits, we are trying to keep our heads above waters. It came to a point where my Mom and Pops are experiencing extreme hardship and facing considerable financial challenges that is above and beyond what they can afford. Specially now that the new year is coming, they need to meet the deductible. The monetary help they will receive will go to the out of pocket medical expenses and with previous medical bills.

I hope you can find it in your hearts to extend your helping hand and give whatever you can afford to help my Mom in her situation so she can fully heal and get back to what she does best…a good wife, a loving mother to her 4 children, a good friend and a caring and compassionate nurse to her patients.

We appreciate your kindness and prayers. May the good Lord bless you and your family.

Please share and support our campaign. Thank you.
