Jocelyn Kelly Crews Rombough
Donation protected
Hi my name is Chenee Holcomb and I am my Mother's oldest child.
We are looking to raise $10,000 dollars. $5,000 to go towards burial cost for the family left behind and $5,000 to donate to Fred Hutch Cancer Center. If a $5,000 dollar donation is given to Fred Hutch Cancer Center then our Mother’s name can be added to the memorial wall.
In 2021, Jocelyn was studying glass blowing at the University of South Alabama in Mobile when in July of that year she was admitted to the hospital for a collapsed lung. After a bunch of testing it was determined that she had Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) that originated in her uterus that had metastasized to her lungs and a few other places. The tumor in her right lung was so big it had caused her lung to collapse.
She decided that she wanted to have treatment closer to home to be near family as well as a top notch Cancer Research Center that has a Sarcoma center. Sarcoma’s only make up 1% of all cancer diagnosis but there are over 70 varieties of Sarcoma, so treatment options can be limited as its is difficult to develop new treatment plans when the patient population is so small.
In order to be discharged from the hospital in Alabama she had to go through 3 weeks of radiation treatment to shrink the tumor down enough for her lung to re-inflate and she couldn’t fly after the radiation treatments for medical reasons so she would need to drive 2500 miles back to Seattle. So Christian, her 3rd child, flew down to Mobile and drove her and her car all the way back up to Seattle.
When she finally met her Medical Oncologist she was given a prognosis of 9-15 months but she ended up making it 26 months, almost double what was projected. She went through 4 different types of treatment including 2 separate clinical trials. We want to thank the dedicated medial and research staff for the excellent care she received at Fred Hutch Cancer Center during all those treatments.
Its was a rough summer with a month long hospital stay, followed by 6 weeks at a skilled nursing facility to work on getting strong enough to go home. She was improving day by day but unexpectedly she passed away on Saturday September 9th. Her body was just too tired, too beat up and just couldn’t do it any more.
Unfortunately, she passed away with no life insurance to help cover the funeral cost.
The funeral costs are adding up to $6,500 for cremation, internment of the urn and a small funeral. This is proving to be a large financial burden on the children she has left behind.
If you wish to make a donation in the memory of Jocelyn it would be greatly apprciated it would also be wonderful if people can leave comments with their favorite or fond memory of Jocelyn to share with everyone.
If you are interested in attending her funeral or wish to make a donation by cash or check please reach out to Chenee directly.
