**Joe passed away peacefully March 25, surrounded by family and friends. Please continue to keep Jane & the family and friends in your thoughts & prayers**
Though Joe and Jane's story started years before, his cancer story started five years ago. Ironically, he was looking into life insurance because they had just decided to pursue their own business, Griffin Heating, Cooling, and Home Services. Needless to say, when the kidney cancer was found, life insurance was not a possibility. Joe's cancer has been aggressive from the start. No matter the treatment, it has returned every time. At one point, it moved 14cm up an artery in 10 days. A tumor in his brain doubled in size in two months. He has had as much of both lungs removed as possible, his kidney and renal artery removed, two brain tumors removed, a third tumor that was not, cancer in the lining of the brain, and most recently, his chest is completely full of cancer. All of it kidney cancer, which can not be treated with the "normal" regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. He has endured the worst treatments known to cancer patients, according to the nurses in the oncology unit at Northwestern. During this entire process, Joe and Jane never stopped loving and giving. Jane was a co-chair for the Mackinaw to Peoria St. Jude run and when she wasn't, they were corporate sponsors. They manned the phones at the telethon and Jane ran the run. They've donated to every school function and family in need. They are individual and corporate sponsors of school events. Jane's even been known to drop off donation items on the way to the E.R. Now, it's time for us to give back. They still have two teenage girls at home and Joe was running a business. No life insurance and loss of income will be devastating, on top of the loss of Joe. Other fundraisers are sure to follow, but this is the fastest way for now. We thought we had more time! Updated: Most who know the family are aware...Joe has raised 5 children. He loves them all equally, along with a new grandbaby. In fact, all babies seem to adopt Joe as their own. These kids are my nieces and nephews and the entire family loves them all. Sorry for any confusion.
