Joe Minjares Senkyr is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis a progressive incurable lung disease.
This condition was first diagnosed in 2011 and has gone from at first an inconvenience to now a condition requiring that he needs oxygen therapy 24 hours a day. He is now limited in his activities while he awaits a lung transplant. He recently was placed on the transplant list at the University of Minnesota.
Along with many other impacts of the disease Joe has been limited in his energy to continue operating Pepitos the popular South Minneapolis restaurant business that he and his wife Sue established some 40 years ago. As a result of the complications of the disease Joe is in a dire situation having exhausted his financial resources while facing substantial ongoing personal medical expenses.
As a businessman, entertainer, comedian and community activist Joe has contributed to the improvement of his community throughout his career. His expansion of Pepitos and the customers it brought attracted other businesses to the neighborhood making 48th and Chicago a vital business community. He has been generous with his resources in supporting youth activities at McRae Park and community services throughout the years. As an example Joe has provided a free Thanksgiving meal for the community for many years, he also served a Christmas breakfast at the nearby St. Joseph's Childrens Home, complete with an appearance by Santa.
Recently with Joe's acquisition of the Parkway Theater he has provided a reasonably priced site for high school reunions, hosted live video of Presidential debates and presented a variety of live entertainment acts.
In the words of a local resident "..it isn't difficult for me to extol how much Joe & Sue have meant, not only to the neighborhood, but to the much larger neighborhood of the TC Metro area and well beyond"
Joe who has helped so many others over the years, now is in need of help both medically and financially. A group of friends and associates have established this GoFundMe effort as one way of meeting some of his financial needs.
Joe's financial needs are urgent. All donations will go directly to Joe and Sue to immediately assist them with their financial needs.
