Joe Henderson Memorial Fund

It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the passing of Joe Henderson this week, aged 41, formally of Rio Oso and Wheatland.

 

With this news we acknowledge that the world has lost a great man, but most devastating, a beautiful little boy has lost his best friend and Dad.

 

Joe recently moved to Alabama to be close to JW, his son, but his time there has been cut tragically short. Nothing will ever make up for the loss of a beloved father, but hopefully a fund put together by all those who loved him will make the road a bit easier.

 

Joe was a fighter and determined to enjoy life to its fullest. After heart surgery and a stroke at a young age, it would have been easy for anyone to give up and blame the world for his misfortunes… but not Joe… he learned to walk again, talk again, and when skiing proved too difficult, he swapped to snowboarding instead. A few weeks ago, Joe went in for another heart surgery and it seemed as though this would not keep him down either, but unfortunately this time it was not the case.

Joe was such a loved member of the community and everyone who knew him couldn’t help but be drawn in by his quick wit and wickedly clever sense of humor. To me, Joe was more like a bonus brother than a friend… but that was not unique to just our family, Joe just slotted in and was a welcome “extra” member of many households throughout his life.

 

I know the whole community is shocked and heart-broken with this news. In times of such sadness, it is important to come together and support each other as we attempt to mend. Please be as generous as you can, and even better, share a good “Joe Story”… I know there are many. Please email your story/photo to joehendersonmemorial1  gmail.com – before the end of February. I will copy them into a memory book to give to Pam and JW as a reminder of the wonderful, and hilarious, man he was.
