My name is Robyn Jenkins and I'm trying to raise money for my dad, Joe Jenkins, who has been a police officer for 20 years. His career began in the Sherriff's Dept. as a detention officer to a deputy on the road to finding his home in the Gibsonville PD where he became a Sr. Police Officer and K-9 handler. My dad made it a priority to be seen in the community, talk with those in the community, and/or help any and everyone he could. He loved being in law enforcement and loves being a husband, father, and grandfather. He, as you may know, has made a lasting imprint into the life of every person he meets.
My dad began having pains in his right arm which led to medical testing. Those tests revealed a ruptured disk in his neck. This led to more testing. Those test revealed 2 bulging disks in his back. He was and is in significant pain. He stayed out of work in hopes of recovering quickly and getting back to the job that he loves. He struggled managing his intense migraines which caused memory loss, loss of balance, and Bells Palsy.
He was forced to make the choice to leave law enforcement by his doctors. He was also told that he may never be able to hold another job. My dad was devastated. My dad has provided for our family for so many years. He told me that his "pride is taking a hit" not knowing if he will be able to continue providing for his family.
At this point, my dad has to wait for his "sick time" (medical leave) to run out and wait a 90 day period (of no pay) before he can pursue long term disability. My mom has to apply for his state retirement/disability, which we don't know if he will even get.
The "goal" is set at $7,500 to simply help with the transition from the sick time to his long term disability (the 90 days). This does not even come close to the amount of medical bills that will begin coming in. My dad is trying to heal, and with healing comes.... surgeries, doctor's appointments, testing, and rest. He had his first surgery last week which started this healing process. The surgery went well but unfortunately there will be more to come.
My dad has always been supportive and encouraging of me. He has ALWAYS been there for me. I want to be there for him when he needs it the most.
