Joe McCready's cancer battle
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Allie Gillies and I am one of Joe & Danielle McCready's biggest fans. They are an amazing family with 2 amazing kids and a cancer diagnosis that came out of the blue this past May. Joe mysteriously broke his arm one morning and within a few weeks, Joe was diagnosed with a very rare form of bone cancer, a type of sarcoma, that is only .02% of all cancers. It's rare, it's scary and it's expensive. Believe it or not, Joe will continue to work at his remote job during treatment, but even still they will need our help.
A cancer diagnosis doesn't account for for a daughter about to go off to college for the first time or a mom who cares for her adult son with autism and refractory epilepsy full-time. There isn't a part time job that anyone can get to cover this. So far, the diagnosis alone has resulted in over $10,000 in medical bills. We have no idea how much Northwestern's bills will be for treatment (chemo) and surgery to take out the tumor in Joe's shoulder/arm.
That's where we can all come together to help. If you know Joe & Danielle, you know they wouldn't ask anyone for anything. If anything they give their time to local non-profits, where you'll find Danielle anytime she has someone to care for her son, she's there giving of herself. I asked permission to start this GoFundMe and share the news.
Imagine, having to not only care for your adult child but your husband and try to manage it all. It's going to be an uphill battle but if any family can climb it, the McCready family can, but a little easier with your help.
I am asking you to each consider donating what it would cost you for a dinner out. $50- to help them pay their current medical bills and future ones. We aren't looking to buy them a new car or a fancy gift, but to pay off things that honestly should be covered more fully by health insurance.
Help me, help them and you'll be easing the stress for a family who I love so much.
If you have other ideas? Or would like to help in other ways? Consider a gift card to a restaurant or store. Panera, Target- anything would be of help to offset things they don't even know they need yet.
You can message me if you have any questions, or want to help differently.
Our fundraising goal might go UP once we find out what the actual costs are going to be. I will update this page as the family requests. Tuesday, Joe got his port installed for Chemo which will begin in a few weeks.
Thank you for helping the McCready family- it means a lot to me and I know that if you know me, you'll help because I don't do this unless there is a REAL need. Be well and help Joe beat bone cancer!
