In memory of Joe Smrke and support of his wife Dawn Sinclair

On August 9, 2024, we lost our beloved friend Joseph Smrke after his courageous battle with cancer. He had recently enjoyed a memorable honeymoon trip to Greece with his wife Dawn Sinclair to cap-off their wedding celebrations from the previous summer. For nine beautiful years, Joe and Dawn had built a joyful life combining family and community filled with love and laughter until his sudden and tragic diagnosis.

Yet here we are in grief, with a circumstance and outcome that was swift and too soon. “What can I do to help?” is the most heartfelt response upon hearing of this news. Hugs, prayers and a comforting presence are always welcome, but providing financial space is a gift that can make a tremendous difference in an uncertain time. To assist Dawn in hosting a celebration of life and supporting her in her grieving, please consider contributing to this fund. All contributions will be greatly appreciated.

Dawn has been a steadfast pillar of Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto and has consistently been there for those in need. With her abundant enthusiasm and gift of song, she gave her time and resources to help and heal those suffering from AIDs, Cystic Fibrosis, poverty in Africa, and seniors in long-term-care plus singing at countless celebrations-of life, including at the funeral of Honourable Jack Layton.
