Medical Support for Joel Fernandez
Donation protected
Hello,
I'm writing this on behalf of my high school friend, Joel Fernandez. Joel left a job in North Carolina to move to Georgia to take a job with the Veterans' Administration. Shortly after moving to Georgia, Joel noticed some medical concerns he had to address. After consulting with doctors in Georgia, he received a diagnosis of cancer.
Unfortunately, because he was caught between jobs, he was no longer covered by health insurance. Upon hearing of his cancer diagnosis, the Veterans' Administration told Joel he would not be able to work for them while he was dealing with cancer. This left Joel with no job or health insurance while he received chemo and radiation treatments, which left him sick and in tremendous pain. At the date of this post, Joel has endured 16 weeks of 24/7 chemo coupled with 19 sessions of radiation. He will have to endure additional chemo and 12 more sessions of radiation. According to his doctors, once Joel completes these treatments, he will not be able to work for an additional 12 months because the treatments will wipe out his immune system.
Financially, Joel has nothing left. He will receive $12 in food stamps each month but has not been able to qualify for other assistance in Georgia such as disability because he is a single man with no minor children living in the home. He is still trying to work with the Social Security Administration to get help his with medical bills. However, even with help with medical bills, he still needs financial support for living expenses. Joel has never been one to ask for help, but I am asking as his friend for anyone who can help our friend Joel now to please offer your support.
The dollar goal seems daunting but when you consider he will be out of work for so long, these funds will need to carry him though and will help tremendously. I would like to extend the opportunity for friends and family to donate and help out with Joel's medical and living expenses. To contribute, click the donate button. Also, please forward to your friends and family.
