Joel Kaplan Fund
Donation protected
Joel has been homeless for about three weeks (as of this writing on 3/3/2020) and has also been in Grady Hospital for a period of time. His diabetes and the fact that he had to have part of a leg amputated a few years ago presents him with additional challenges. He has applied for, but has been denied SSI benefits. He is continuing to work on that with someone from Jewish Family and Career Services. He was actually in a good program at Gateway Center on Pryor Street, however he was removed from that program due to his health issues and special needs (related to the amputation).
I'm asking for donations to - at the very least - get him into an inexpensive hotel so that he can recuperate and refocus on the SSI application and maybe getting back into the Gateway Center's program or some other helpful program. If you have ideas or suggestions, please let me know. I know that we all have our own lives and responsibilities and financial burdens, but please find it in your heart to make a donation, large or small, to help out a fellow human being in need.
Joel has trouble getting around and is sleeping on the street at times, since shelters often fill up. Please make a donation to get him in a more beneficial environment so that he can try to get the things in place that should help him get off the streets permanently. Joel is a high school classmate of mine and I'm hoping his BHS brothers and sisters can help out, but, of course, we'll accept donations from anyone who'd like to ease his burdens. Thank you.
