Joseph Azzarello, organized by Deana Needham

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of friend and community member Joseph Azzarello (64). He was a beloved father to Melissa Ann (26). husband to the late Ann Azzarello and a friend to many. Joseph lived in the Valley Stream/ Franklin Square area for many years and has worked 15+ years at Belmont Racetrack helping to support his family through hard work and dedication. 

Back in March of 2019, Joseph was diagnosed with late stage melanoma cancer that he fought aggressively until the very end. By his side every step of the way, his daughter Melissa Ann assumed the role of caregiver while being involved in a full time Occupational Therapy graduate program. She handled all aspects of his medical care and made sure to attend all of his important treatments and appointments. Not only did she advocate for her father’s health and wishes until the very end, Melissa always put his needs before her own and never thought twice about it. Joseph would constantly talk about how much his daughter helped him through this rough process and how he was fighting so hard to be able to spend as much time with her on this earth as he could. The bond between father and daughter that blossomed over the last few years of Joseph’s life would be one to truly admire.

With the devastation of losing her last living parent, financial hardship should not be something Melissa Ann needs to worry about during this incredibly difficult time.
