Joey & Tay’s East Coast Tour
Donation protected
Our names are Joey and Tay, we are both aircraft mechanics with dreams of flying professionally. Both of us have our pilots license but we don’t have the required hours to start our commercial training. To help us gain those hours we decided to plan a trip along the east coast to see some places we want to explore and meet up with friends and family.
On October 25th we’ll pack our gear and head to the airport in anticipation of what lies ahead. The journey will take us from our home in Charleston South Carolina to Blacksburg Virginia where we’ll watch a VT home football game. From there we plan on taking some friends on a day trip to Memphis Tennessee before heading back to Blacksburg. Once we finish up there we’re jumping up to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to visit some family. After that we want to fly the Hudson corridor.
The Hudson corridor is a section of uncontrolled airspace that runs directly through the JFK airspace, some of the busiest in the world. This strip of air follows the path of the Hudson and allows smaller “General Aviation” (GA) aircraft to fly through without disturbing the many jumbo jets carrying thousands to their destinations. This will by far be the most challenging part of the adventure.
Finally turning south from the Hudson, we’re hitting Philly for some authentic Philly cheesesteaks as well as more family time. Our last stop before home sweet home is none other than the birthplace of aviation as we know it, Kitty Hawk North Carolina. Seeing the place where our dreams were first made possible almost a hundred years before we’re born seems a very fitting end to our epic journey. Finally on November 3rd, after a long nine days of flying we will head back to our base camp in Charleston.
Having to fly a staggering 2,315 miles, this flight is about furthering our knowledge, testing our limits, and experiencing a different kind of flying all while having fun. We are going farther by ourselves than we ever have before and we are so excited. We plan on documenting our trip and sharing our experience with everyone to help promote the aviation lifestyle. Any and all donations are much appreciated and we can’t wait to show you what goes into planning and flying a cross country trip
