Joey Figueroa's Battle Against Cancer

Family and Friends,

We are so saddened to share that our brother, Joey, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, which has spread to his liver.

Joey was hospitalized from April 1st to April 8th in significant pain. He had comprehensive bloodwork, numerous tests run and biopsies. On April 10th he met with his oncologist and was told the biopsy confirmed their suspicions of Stage 4 colon cancer, which had spread to his liver. Joey was admitted that evening to start his first chemotherapy session, which took much of the day. Once completed, he was sent home. In two weeks he will return to the hospital for the next round of chemo.

Unfortunately, Joey does not have health insurance for himself, so he’s applying for assistance in the state of Texas. He is a small business owner, and this diagnosis has complicated his family's well-being as he struggles to manage business, hard news, and sickness. Many depend on his strength and provision. So, we are asking for help from family and friends, all of you. We anticipate significant bills for what has already been done and what will be ahead. For example, he’s currently on a blood thinner that will cost him $900/month. That’s just a fraction of the expenses that we know will accumulate quickly. Finances are a burden that will inhibit his treatment. Please, please consider contributing if you are able.

Now, we want to tell you a few things we love about our baby brother. He’s awesome! He’s able to make us laugh, even in these darkest of times. Despite being in pain, he calls us. Throughout the conversation he has us wiping our tears and laughing. As his sisters, we each have a special bond with him. We look forward to many more times of hanging out with him and making memories together. He’s sweet, caring, funny, loving, generous, kind and really fun. We are so lucky to be his sisters.

Joey has been married to the love of his life, Andrea, for almost 24 years. They have two sons, Ethan and Ian and a daughter, Lexi. They have been living in Texas since 2018.
