John Carlin and his family have been devastated to learn of John’s sudden diagnosis of pancreatic cancer after an emergency visit to the hospital on August 7, 2023. The family has been surrounded with love and prayers through many texts, calls and well wishes but many of us wish we could do more. It is through that sentiment and with Melissa Carlin’s permission we have started this Go Fund Me to assist with any costs due to extended hospital stays and treatments. While funds cannot soothe the anxiety the family is feeling right now. Our hope is the funds raised can assist with having one less concern during this uncertain time.

Melissa is by John’s side at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, AK while McKenna is holding down the homestead here in Homer, AK. They are still in the midst of testing and reviewing treatment plans with much uncertainty in their future.

John was working in the Bush over the summer and began to notice stomach pains and jaundice upon his return home on August 5. John ended up needing to go to the ER in Homer and after diagnosing a blocked bile duct it was also observed that there was a suspicious mass on John’s pancreas. This resulted in an emergency evacuation to Alaska Regional Hospital where he continues to work with doctors regarding his pancreatic cancer treatment and managing the pain of newly developed pancreatitis, a side effect from the surgery required for the blocked bile duct and biopsies that were required for diagnosis.

If you know John you know he is the kindest, most positive and most fun man you could have the fortune to spend time with. Foremost he is a family man that loves and adores his beautiful wife Melissa and amazing daughter McKenna. He is an avid fisherman and takes incredible pride in guiding both clients and staff in exploring Alaska’s most remote wilderness through his business Alaska Trophy Fishing Safaris on the Mulchatna River in Bristol Bay. Should you ever have had an opportunity to watch hockey, his first love, with John, you will know it is a physical experience as he hugs and grabs you throughout the entire game! We are confident John will enter this battle with the same passion and fight he has always exhibited in all things he has tackled.
