John Cronin & a life in Scouting!

Tax deductible
Hey, all - I am likely a voice from your distant past - Jay Cronin - And I am proud to remind you of that past while honoring my Dad and my (and likely yours) Scoutmaster John Cronin.

We all know my dad and his love for Scouting. As a son, I always knew he loved Scouting and all that we loved - The weekly camraderie of meetings, learning new things through merit badges, progressing as leaders and of course camping. But now, as a father myself, I get the other satisfaction of watching young people find themselves in all of these experiences under the psuedo watchful eye of guiding leaders - and I get what brought him back to Scouting as my brothers and I progressed through the ranks and even as we had left Scouting.
Over his tenure as Scout Master for Troop 3 in Milton he guided dozens of boys to earn Eagle, oversaw hundreds of camping trips, burned hundreds of camp meals, and coached all of us through the ethical decision making process that stays with us to this day. (hopefully we are better cooks)

My Dad would agree that his greatest legacy would be to ensure Scouting thrive for generations to come. As a past board member for the Council, leader of the MDC, and the town manager for Milton, he always had a soft spot in his heart for the Camp Sayre. Much to his delight the Scouting Council is well underway building the ultimate resource center at Camp Sayre combining two loves, Scouting and The Town of Milton.

It’s open to the public and welcomes everyone yet retains the critical traditions of Scouting. As part of that development they would like to simultaneously honor some of our greatest Scouters and ensure the future of Scouting

Kids still need Scouting. But there are fewer and fewer folks like my Dad with the ability to volunteer (and patient wives like my Mom). The Base Camp at Camp Sayre provides support and inspires young parents to serve in the same way Mr. Cronin did. In this way, your contribution will benefit youth and families through a vibrant Scout program for years to come.

The effort to build Scouting’s ultimate resource center is well underway and already has a proven track record of revitalizing Scouting. We are endeavoring to raise $3,000 in honor of my Dad's legacy and those funds will be used specifically to support the parent engagement and inner city Scouting programs and supporting low income kids that normally couldn't experience the joys of camping. We all know his passion for teaching the greatest lessons of respect and compassion that Scouting offers by welcoming children from all walks of life in Troop 3 and throughout the council programs.

The camp is underway and renovations to the program will be evident this spring with a recognition ceremony / launch event late summer. Please contribute today so we can support the effort and My Dad can visit the camp and see his legacy in action.

As my Dad approaches his 80th Birthday, this is a great honor to let him know how much the countless hours, guidance and support meant to me - Scouting and my Dad's example left an indelible mark on my life. On visits back to Milton, I love bringing my kids to Camp Sayre and regaling them in stories of the camp, and the adventures ranging from unforgettable OA ceremonies, Klondike Derbies, and just the happy misery of camping in the rain and the satisfaction of starting a fire in the worst conditions possible.

I’ve followed the national organization’s change to embrace everyone and most importantly I know Camp Sayre can work Scouting’s magic with current Scouts and parents. I am proud to put my effort behind our local exciting endeavor make Scouting relevant and honor John Cronin for a lifetime of leadership!

In appreciation for your support each donor will receive a commemorative patch and an invitation to the camp to see and participate in the programs. You’ll experience the impact your contribution made in the eyes of all the Scouts and children!

I hope all of you can contribute and I hope to see you at the ceremony this summer!
