John DeRoy Cancer Treatment and Paralysis Needs

In 2011 my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell bladder cancer. After months of chemotherapy, radiation and finally surgery to replace his bladder my dad was pronounced cancer free! On his six year final check up and scan the doctors found a new tumor. Again he was diagnosed with cancer. After a couple months of chemotherapy his body was shutting down and could no longer handle the treatments. In an effort to save his life the doctor suggested something new: immunotherapy (Keytruda). This treatment has helped keep the tumor from growing. He also received radiation to the area. About 6 months ago my dad started having severe pain where the tumor is. Turns out the radiation probably damaged the nerves causing him increased pain. To solve this problem my dad went in for a spinal ablation (removal of nerves in spine to decrease pain). A week after his surgery on his spine his pain increased on the area and he awoke from a nap paralyzed from the waste down. He was medivaced to El Paso for surgery to remove a clot. He has suffered from a spinal stroke.
A couple days later my dad was released from the ICU and sent back to Alamogordo Rehab to try and get him back up and walking. He still cannot move his legs but is starting to get some feeling back. Right now in the rehab facility they just informed us they cannot keep him if he wants to receive Keytruda. The insurance company won’t pay for it in rehab. So here’s my thought: my dad needs help paying for 2 treatments so he can stay in rehab where they are truly giving him the best chance to walk again. The therapists there are positive and encouraging. He loves it there and was heartbroken to hear he wouldnt be able to stay.
My dad has spent his life giving back to people in need. It’s time now that he needs some help. One Keytruda treatment cost $7,000. He needs at least two while he’s in rehab. Can you please give what you can to help raise the money for his treatments so my dad can stay in rehab where his best chance of walking again is? Thank you so much! (Prayers are also most welcome!) we also need funds for a wheelchair and home needs to keep helping him after rehab.
Galatians 6:2 proclaims, “Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
