In June 2022, my father was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage four nasopharyngeal and lung cancer. He had been coughing and having trouble breathing for some time, but we all thought it was possibly just COVID. Once diagnosed, he immediately started radiation and chemotherapy. The cancer metastasised to the liver and bone tissues. He struggled with pain and the side effects of chemotherapy, which ultimately took his life on November 29, 2022. Everything from his diagnosis to his sudden death took my family by surprise, with little time for us to prepare.

My dad’s wish before he died was to take his body back home to Nigeria for burial. I know it will cost a considerable amount of money to send him home.
