Hi y’all, my name is Shelby and I was lucky enough to be John’s daughter. For those of you who knew him well, I think y’all will agree that no words or story I could tell would be able to accurately capture his character. For those of you who didn’t get the opportunity to know him, I’m sorry you didn’t have the privilege. His tenacity carried him through some of the most challenging experiences any person can tackle. His life full of obstacles, he always came out on the other side. He taught me and my brothers how to be curious and fight for what we want in life, and I’d say it sure as hell paid off. Having lost my mom 14 years ago, he seemed sure he would never find love again. But then he found Jerri (at Valero of all places). Their spark ignited and love story brought them to their wedding less than one year ago. My dad loved Jerri with his entire heart (as is evident in this picture of the two of them at her retirement party), and her family quickly became his own. I cannot express how grateful I am he was able to experience life with them.
On the morning of March 13th, my father unexpectedly passed. In good health, this took all of us by surprise. Having come from simple means, he didn’t spend money he didn’t have. This, unfortunately, means he was without life insurance at the time of his passing. As such, to support Jerri and unburden the cost of an unexpected funeral, we would be overwhelmed by any financial and emotional support possible. I speak on behalf of my entire family when I say thank you.
