John Marcheski is a friend, co-worker, son, brother, father, grandfather and husband to Katie Marcheski. If you know him you know he is an intelligent pharmacist with a wonderful sense of humor.
As many of you know, John has been battling brain cancer since 2014 at which time he had his first brain surgery. When John was diagnosed in 2014, he continued to work while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. John had routine follow-ups every few months to monitor his brain for changes. Through the years John began to have intermittent seizures. This led to many different trials of seizure medications, all of which failed to control his seizures. Other than his seizures John remained stable until 2021 when new symptoms started to take place and the doctors were unclear if the new symptoms were related to the reoccurring seizures or the tumor. As a result, John underwent testing for clinical trials, genetic testing, specialty scans and many medication trials. John’s seizures continued to progress and resulted in him having to leave his career that he worked at for nearly 25 years.
Despite multiple interventions, John’s seizures continued to increase to upward of 20 per day. A specialty study confirmed that a tumor was now present again and he underwent another brain surgery in March of 2023. John and Katie received the devastating news of his diagnosis of Glioblastoma. As treatment options were discussed for the next few weeks, John’s seizures began to increase yet again which resulted in him needing his 3rd brain surgery in April 2023. John is now in the process of starting treatment/clinical trials.
This journey has come at the cost of many out-of-pocket expenses for them, not to mention the unknown future costs of his care. Those who know Katie know she is a wonderful wife who loves John and rarely leaves his side. She is able to continue to work intermittently right now, but the future of his care is uncertain as well.
John and Katie are amazing people and if you have been lucky enough to have either one of them in your life then you understand the definition of loyalty and a true friend.
If Katie and John could share a message with you they would tell you:
Tomorrow is never promised, we are only given today. Tell those you love that you love them, live life to the fullest, take the vacation, eat and drink until your heart is happy, forgive and forget for life is too short to hold a grudge, and save for a rainy day, but not so much that you don’t LIVE in the now.
Please help support them through this difficult and unknown time.
