John Mcdermott’s New Heart Journey

Hi, my name is Jess. My husband, John Mcdermott, is currently in the CICU waiting for the gift of a heart. My husband is 42 years old. He was born with heart problems. His first open heart surgery was at the age of 15, his second was in his 20’s. Over the last four years, his condition has worsened. He was listed March 1st of this year as a status 4. He has always been a hard worker and stubborn to a fault. Nobody knew, unless he told them, that his heart is the way it is because he always pushes himself. On the 10th of this month, the heart transplant team admitted John in Houston Methodist with the plan of installing an Intra Aortic Balloon Pump to help his heart until he can get a donor. He will not leave the hospital until that happens. With John in the hospital, our family is now depending on my income alone. Any funds raised will help with the costs of traveling to and from the hospital, parking, bills, school needs for our kids and help cover costs of post transplant costs as well.
