John Muir High School Swim Team

We are the John Muir High School Swim Team! We're a Title I School with a very diverse population with a lot of heart.
As an experienced coach I know how expensive swimming is, and since a swim kit cannot be returned it's up to the families to come up with it.
The team has created a sliding scale, a scholarship fund to use the money. For example, if the student has a 3.5 gpa and dedicated 10 hours to community service, its free, the lower the gpa the more hours.
This is a very special team, we have roughly 20-30 students coming out right now and only one has had real swim experience, we are using t-shirts, shorts - my old googles - and just getting used to the water. These young men and women are very brave and trying a sport that you must face some very real fears.
This isn't just a sport you are helping, its a life changer for many of these kids. The community they are building, the courage they show to admit, "I'm scared of the deep end" - is real and inspiring.
My goal is to get them solid swim kits, to get them to a swim invitational, to have everyone have at least two real races - and for this part of their life, change the next generation for their families.
Two weeks ago we had a big day, everyone made it 25 yards and went out for food in celebration......think back on what made High School amazing, and please give these kids that chance.
Thank you - again I say thank you!
