**UPDATE 02/22/24**
As per requested, here is John's February update for the revolving dilemmas that are on his plate. John says I know… I know… I am just as tired of living it, as you guys are reading about it.
Health…
Battle with the internal & external infections continues, but some progress has been made on both, which is awesome, I just wish we could speed-up the progression, as I’m soooo tired of being a miserable kid. Since this dilemma has been persistent for 4 years with internal, and 2+ years with external, the assailant has become quite resistant & resilient. Current treatment combination is… 5 different oral pills daily, 4 different topical lotions, and 3 different body wash/soap. The 4 topical creams/lotions/sprays are on a 7-day rotation schedule, as their effectiveness wanes after about 5 days. The 3 soap/wash products alternate every two days. Most of these meds traditionally cure most infections in a week or so, but due to me being misdiagnosed repeatedly for a couple years, the infections are strongly established, and the appropriate treatment plans may take several months. About half the medication is not covered by the Oregon Health Plan, so the out-of-pocket expense is still about $50 a day, and will be until cured.
Housing Assistance…
Since I had been assuming that the information I was told in late December about not being eligible for rental assistance as January 1st was probably incorrect, and having been told by related agencies in other districts that I had been misinformed, I reached to several legislative offices for clarification on what the real housing assistance facts were. Thankfully, Werner Reshke’s office inquired on my behalf, and last week I was re-contacted by the local housing assistance agency’s director. She explained that the information about my status & eligibility was incorrectly conveyed by other staff members in December, and that I was eligible for rental assistance for January & February after all. I explained that this means that 4 out of the last 6 month, I have had to borrow money from friends and my Go-Fund-Me donations to pay rent, when I was already qualified for assistance, and that the honorable avenue for them to take was to reimburse me for that $6K that should have been banked for medical expenses & misc living expenses. She apologized, but stated that they can’t reimburse me or the Go-Fund-Me account. Having dealt with this before, I know that they could, but they won’t, because that would take some explaining to someone further-up the government ladder that mistakes had been made, and no-one wants to be held accountable for that. This scenario has played so many times, on so many levels & programs, I just don’t understand how there are people staffed at these offices, that have no knowledge of how programs work, and yet, they are allowed & authorized to converse with people in need, about processes & procedures that they don’t know shit about?!? A big “Thank You” to Werner Reshke’s staff for getting involved, and connecting the dots. But honestly… I shouldn’t have to play “Go tattle to Mom or Dad”, to get someone to do their job. But, I am thankful, that I will now receive housing & utilities assistance for March-April-May, and that any donations for the next few months will be utilized for the expenses originally intended.
Social Security Disability…
I filed my 2nd appeal on February 6th. This will start the process for a judgment hearing. The last SS agent I spoke with stated that pre-covid, the hearing was historically a 3-6 month wait for scheduling, but now that we’re post-covid, it will be probably 18 months for scheduling!!! You have to wonder, how long these government agencies are going to milk the “covid” cow, and question how quick they are to play that card as an excuse for their inefficiencies. I have successfully engaged Ron Wyden’s office, and Cliff Bentz’s office for their assistance in monitoring & pushing my appeal when possible.
