John Polo Family Fund

Hi friends! Some of you know, and some may not. Our funny and gregarious friend, John Polo, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last April. The diagnosis came while he and Jhea were doing their inspection on a house they wanted to buy and fix up together.
John has spent a year on a very cutting edge lung cancer study to help cure him. For the last year, he’s been only on immunotherapy with the study and doing so well that in May 2020 there was no evidence of disease!
John took his family to a small Michigan cabin for a quiet vacation. They played in the beach, and John talked about how great it was to run with his little daughter, Daisy.
A week later, John wasn’t feeling well and the Dr’s found 2 masses on the pericardium of his heart. That same week, Jhea was laid off from work leaving them both unemployed and without insurance. Jhea quickly took COBRA on. But at the cost of $1400 per month, it really overwhelmed them.
John is now preparing for chest surgery to try and get samples from his pericardium. The doctors will use these samples to see if the cancer is back, in what form, and how to proceed from there.
Both Jhea and John are without jobs at the moment. Jhea was furloughed in May and then laid off in July. She works in the restaurant industry as a specialist in wine. We all know the restaurant industry isn’t doing well at the moment due to covid.
John has been off work since February due to his condition.
Money raised will help them to pay COBRA bills so their insurance doesn’t lapse, and help towards mortgage payments that they are a few months behind on. They are strapped at the moment, and are getting farther behind on regular bills. With the cost of COBRA and new hospital bills, they are overwhelmed.
My goal is to provide them with some relief from their quickly increasing debt. If you can spare an extra $20 to put towards their fund, please do so. I want to help get them as caught up as possible so they can save their strength for the fight ahead.
Everything helps. Any of you that know John and Jhea know that they are always the first to speak up for their friends and help support them. 2020 has not been kind to a lot of us. All we can do is keep trying to make it better.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read their story!
