John Rochon's Spinal Cord Injury Rehab in Hawaii

Donation protected
Oct. 12th 2019, Our son John David Rochon , Age 20 . Was in a rollover car accident in a remote area in Alaska.  The vehicle went off a bridge and John was ejected from the vehicle. God must have been watching over him that early morning as he miraculously survived for 10-12 hours in harsh winds and 20 degree weather. Along with 2 others, they were rescued 25-30 miles outside of the city of Nome.

Once stabilized in Nome, they were all medivaced to Anchorage for further treatment. When John got to the Alaska Native Medical Center was heavily sedated as the medical team worked to stablize the major injuries and prepare him for surgery.

Along with countless scrapes and bruises everywhere, John sustained broken rib, a broken wrist, a laceration on the forehead, a collapsed lung and the most devastating, the T12 fracture to his spinal cord causing John to have paralysis from the waist down.   After 3 surgeries and currently, intensive SCI therapy at St Luke's Rehabilitation Center in Spokane, Washington.

Because of the coming winter, we are preparing to bring John home to Kaneohe , Hawaii so he can continue his rehab through the winter months.  This is the best possible plan for John's recovery.

John is young, strong and driven.  We are so proud of John and his bravery and willingness to put in the work. There's no doubt it will take a lot of work on John's part and with much support and love from family and friends and the faith we have in GOD, we are hopeful for a positive outcome for John's journey.

In preparation for John's move to Hawaii for continued treatment, there will be added expenses for specialized treatment including out of pocket costs that will not be covered by his current medical insurance. Additionally, adaptive equipment and related medical supplies will be needed including travel costs for appointments that John will need to travel back to Alaska for.

Some of the immediate needs are; assistance with home modifications, small entryway ramp, a bed, ADA supports for toilet, sink and shower, a weight bearing transfer sling and any Alaska Airlines or Delta miles.

Our target date is mid December or as soon as we get the ok to bring John home.  Your love and support for John David during this trying time is truly a blessing and greatly appreciated.

With Heartfelt Aloha,

Frank & 'Ohana
