Help a Veteran and His Disabled Wife Defend Their Small Town Lot

My parents need your help. They are facing legal bills to defend their property located within the city limits of a small Washington State town. This could happen to any homeowner, and they wish to raise awareness.

My father, John, is a US Navy Veteran. He is recovering from kidney cancer, including the removal of a kidney. The stress of this situation is negatively affecting his heart condition. My mother, Sharon, is disabled. Like my father, she too is suffering tremendously under the emotional duress of this situation.

My parents live simply on a fixed income and find joy in growing fruits and vegetables. Because the deer also enjoy the garden, my parents always wanted to fence their backyard. To have a fence installed properly, a property survey was saved up for and obtained this past summer.

After the survey was recorded, a neighbor filed adverse possession for a 3-sided shed that is on my parent’s property. My parents planned to remove that shed due to safety, liability, and city building code issues.

The old shed, where it stands, inhibits the ability to receive deliveries of garden soil and wood pellet for my parent’s primary heat source. Additionally, it is concerning that the ability for fire rescue to access the back of my parent’s property is compromised.

My parents worked very hard to buy their home, even overcoming a time of homelessness. This was supposed to be their peaceful, forever home to enjoy. Now they are facing the stress of a lawsuit and mounting legal bills. They do not deserve this.
