John Van Petten Life Commemoration
Donation protected
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved John Van Petten, our loving father, son, devoted brother, and friend to all whose lives he touched. John has left us early morning on January 1, 2021.
While taken too early from us, John lived a full life as a wonderful father, entrepreneur, dedicated public servant, and passionate fireman.
John was born in Villa Park, IL on October 8, 1971. As a child, he brought a sense of commitment and determination to everything he did, while not taking himself too seriously and bringing laughter to all who knew him.
His commitment to developing strength in his physical talent brought home a state championship in wrestling. His natural drive and desire to serve his community was represented in his participation in the Oak Lawn Professional Firefighters Labor Union, where he was a Vice President of the union board, and servicing as a firefighter at the Village of Forest Park Fire Department for over 18 years.
John is survived by his mother Mary Ann Van Petten, brothers Tom Van Petten, Jim Van Petten, sister Megan Van Petten, and four children Bridget, Grace, John, and Margaret Van Petten.
Thank you for your warm thoughts, memories of John, and any support you can provide. Details on memorial service are to follow.
This fundraiser and proceeds have been coordinated by John’s mother and siblings and will be managed for John’s children and legacy.
