Hey, West Chester University Einstein's lovers! Does everyone remember John the bagel guy? You know, the one who remembers your name and order, and never fails to put a smile on your face?! Well, he needs our help! If you want to learn more about his situation, and read a personal letter from him, please refer to the following:

John Berberich, a worker at West Chester Einstein's bagel, was just recently diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. In order to remove it, he must undergo a high-risk surgery. Currently, John is being treated by the Department of Neurosurgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. However, he needs to work until his surgery date in the summer in order to pay for the expenses incurred.

With this said, I wanted to reach out to the students of West Chester to support his fight. John always knows how to shed light in our lives - so here is our turn to do the same in the dark time he is going through!

The team that is organizing this project consists of:  me (Darby McKee), Lexi Zink, Joshua Dandridge, and all of you! https://www.facebook.com/wculovesjohnproject/

John's  Letter:

An open letter to WCU Students, Faculty, and Aramark colleagues:

First, thank you for your outpouring of kindness and compassion.  You all have a special place in my heart.  Over the past few years I realize how much you mean to me.  Each and every one of you has a special gift…  and you have allowed me to share these gifts; however great or small.  Whether it’s a smile, or words of encouragement, please understand how important you all mean to me.  I cannot begin to explain how much your efforts have touched me and my family.  The GoFundMe page is mind blowing (sorry, couldn’t resist that one).

Unfortunately, my memory is beginning to fail me, and it bothers me that I can no longer remember all your names (I really do try!)... Pretty soon I’ll forget how to get home from work every day, but I promise to keep a full tank of gas in my car, just in case.  I have to reduce the number of hours I work each week; as I tired easily and headaches are my constant companion now.

I have a final meeting with the neurologist team at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital on March 15, 2017 to go over the two surgical options, in order to repair the aneurysm in my brain.  I had hoped to have the operation over Spring Break (March 10th through March 19th?); but unfortunately, two weeks is not long enough to recover.  If all goes well, I’ll schedule the procedure for early May and recover over the summer.

Once again, thank you so very much for reaching out to me in my time of need.  I will be forever grateful to you all, and look forward to seeing you again in September.

Peace and all good.
