John Bushey Benefit and More

John Bushey was born and raised in Duluth but has friends all over the world. He is that favorite elementary school teacher of classes of students at both Piedmont and Congdon—the one who made learning fun and organized amazing school trips to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. John is a professional magician who’s performed at all-night grad parties locally (his favorite gig) to venues in California, Canada, and Australia. For 25 years, he’s hosted “Highway 61 Revisited” on KUMD Radio reaching Bob Dylan fans as far away as Russia. He’s a fan and collector of Houdini and Dylan memorabilia, a mentor to students and budding magicians, and he has cancer. He’s undergoing chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, his third recurrence of this incurable but treatable cancer first diagnosed in 2003, the cancer recurred in 2012 and again this year. Last year he underwent a stem cell transplant at Mayo.  Unfortunately his cancer has returned.  In October 2016 John started an experiential treatment at Mayo and has to travel there every three weeks for treatment.  Despite having health insurance, the financial burden of tests and treatment are staggering.
